– followed by a live discussion over Zoom on January 2nd, 2025.
* This reading covers the next two weeks, which get us through the end of the year.
Dafá (Ifá Oracle Divination) for the next couple of weeks: Ogbè'Rosù (also known as Ogbè Ìrosùn) with Ibi (off-path, slow progress). Life feels especially full right now, and Ìrosùn highlights the sense of moving forward at a sluggish pace, as though trudging through thick mud. Just like last week, the attention remains on relationships.
We’re feeling a bit overwhelmed as we move through the holiday season. Changes in routine can easily leave us feeling unsettled and out of balance as we adjust to the disruptions. These moments can add pressure to personal relationships, especially when you’re tasked with extra responsibilities—whether it’s hosting family and friends for dinner or finding the perfect gift for loved ones.
Ọṣun reminds us to approach everything with “Joy.” It doesn’t all have to be perfect, and you don’t need to carry the weight alone. Invite your loved ones to participate in the tasks that you need help with. What truly matters is that you have quality time together, cherish the process, and most of all, have fun. Communication is key to successfully navigating the events of these next couple of weeks.
It feels symbolic that we both begin and close the year with Ọṣun as our guide, especially since she was the primary Òrìṣà for 2024. This spiritual guidance for the next couple of weeks was revealed through the senior Odù, Ìrẹtẹ̀ Mejì, the 14th Odù, which carries profound significance for those on a spiritual path. Its essence is “conquering good fortune”—a reminder embedded in the very name, as Iré (good fortune) is at its core. It is an energy that has come up a lot throughout the year, something for you to ponder; maybe there’s a lesson here that we’re still not grasping.
Ìrẹtẹ̀ applies pressure, urging us to act in a way that creates our own Iré (good fortune). It reminds us that good fortune doesn’t simply happen; it’s something we cultivate. By embodying the qualities of Ọṣun—grace, joy, resilience, and adaptability—we allow life to flow more naturally. Think of the river, a symbol of Ọṣun, which always finds the path of least resistance. It adapts to its changing surroundings, flowing around obstacles and, over time, smoothing the rocks that once blocked its way. There’s an effortless beauty and grace in the river’s persistence, showing us the power of moving with life rather than against it.
Ogbè'Rosù also came out last month during the Thanksgiving weekend, and just like that week, it echoes a similar theme this week. Ultimately, it comes down to your state of mind: are you approaching change and challenges with optimism or pessimism? Do you let worry consume you, or do you embrace experiences as they unfold?
When you feel weighed down, take a moment to pause and ask yourself: “What can I learn from this?” The sooner you uncover the lesson, the sooner you can be released from the experience and move forward.
ÈjìOgbè (also known as Ogbè Mejì), the most senior of all Odù, indicated Ibi (off-path, slow progress). This is a clear indication that there’s a lot going on in your life and trying to process it all is daunting. The Odù symbolizes "lifting both hands to the heavens to receive both the good and the bad." It serves as a profound reminder that life's challenges, though often difficult, are essential for our spiritual and emotional growth.
The essence of ÈjìOgbè lies in its call to accept life’s experiences fully, symbolized by raising both hands to the heavens. This Odù reminds us that growth comes from embracing all aspects of life. A Yorùbá proverb captures the message, “Those who desire rain must also accept the mud,” highlighting the need for perspective and resilience, and the understanding that perfection as you see it, is not attainable.
ÈjìOgbè emphasizes the importance of Sùúrù (patience) to help you process life’s events without becoming overwhelmed. As the embodiment of pure light, it teaches that while darkness hinders vision, so does staring directly into bright light—balance and moderation are key. Picture a "deer in the headlights," frozen by the brightness, unable to move. This serves as a reminder to give yourself enough time and space to calmly adapt to situations, but not so much that you fail to act at all. A missed opportunity can be just as bad as making a poor choice. Avoid extremes, always remember that moderation is key.
Ogbè’Kànràn (also known as Ogbè Ọ̀kànràn) is the Odù the indicated a need to pay more attention to our relationships. Ọ̀kànràn, meaning "what flows from the heart," is reminding us to be aware of our pent-up emotions as well as those of others. Reacting with frustration or anger can only cause a rift within our relationships, so maintaining calm and control is essential now. The Odù tells us to slow down, we’re too much in a hurry and behaving impulsively. It further states “half-measures” will surely fail, you must take your time and follow-through with everything you start until completion.
Please make the following Ebó (sacrifice/offering) to your Ọṣun.
-
Honey, as revealed by Ìdígbè (also known as Ìdí Ogbè).
-

General Reminder: When making any Ebó (offerings), always offer a taste to Èṣù first, who is the divine messenger and takes your prayers and offerings to their destination.
